It is amazing that Kavieng open member, Ben Micah is being vocal about puting extractive industries on notice to respect and protect the environment, when the experimental seabed mining project is in its preparation stage to begin in 2017 in waters that harbour New Irealand and New Britan.  Hopefully, this new legislative framework he is currently developing will be enough to shut down ESM in Papua New Guinea, if we really want to protect our environment.

What is development?

To answer this question we must understand our background/our history/our roots! Who we were as a country and region, in the past, how changes occurred and why they occurred.

Is this land that is being dished out freely actually free land? Who are the birth title holders of these 1,600 land titles? No gift is free!...If these people in the Urbanization office genuinely thought about how this scheme will be providing decent homes for rural-urban drifters, than have they also prioritised in-depth thought for those (Landowners) who will be loosing thier decent homes (land) and forfieting thier childrens decencey to a home for thier own tomorrow, for someone elses today?

If Bougainville's caretaker president John Momis is re-elected in next month's elections his government will immediately begin discussions on re-opening the Panguna mine.

It has been 655 days since Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was informed the SABLs were unlawful and should be cancelled. But instead of taking action to reverse the illegal land grab the government is now blaming landowners for creating the problem and claiming it has to defend the interests of foreign logging companies.
