Investigation Task Force Sweep chairman Sam Koim remains unfazed by the Government’s non-funding of his office.
He told The National at his Gordon office yesterday that he was continuing to do his work with a skeleton staff after Government funding was cut. “I’m really unfazed by this,” Koim said.
“Legally, the court has reinstated us as of last year. The court granted the order against the decision of the NEC to abolish Sweep Team. Legally, we are not phased out.
“I have been to my office, we have been working, despite being stripped of my salary,” he said. “Despite Government not giving us any funding, we have survived this far.
“Functionally, it’s difficult to operate, because of lack of funding. We’ve got 350 cases that have been lodged with us.
“There’s public interest that we attend to those cases, but we are unable to attend fully because of lack of funding.
“We’ve got 91 cases that have proceeded to the court and some of those cases have resulted in conviction and sentencing.”
Koim said other cases had gone through trial, including another case against Tiensten
