S.S.D.D Syndrome in 2013?

Officially two weeks into the year 2013! For those of you who have been on leave and are feeling like you’ve just been woken up rudely from a pleasant dream and are still orientating yourself - welcome back and to those of you who have been working throughout - hope you’ve got enough to keep going for the next couple of months!

Towards the end of last year we saw some very promising developments that made it seem as if genuine compassion for the people of Papua New Guinea had returned to those whom we’ve selected to be our representatives in that Haus Tambaran.

The Pangia Warrior himself announced on the 27th of November 2012, that the Commission of Inquiry into the Special Purpose Agriculture Business Leases (SABL) would be completed and a report made available.  After one year and eight months, K11 million, boxes of evidence and numerous calls for the report to be compiled it seems that Mr Prime Minista is either still on holiday or has a mild case of amnesia. So here’s a reminder to you Mista Prime Minista – the SABL report from the CoI is past it’s overdue date and if you want the smell to go away you need to clean up and get rid of those rotting eggs.

The other bright point from yesteryear was the worthy action of Oro Governor Gary Juffa and the Minister of Mining Byron Chan in accepting a petition against seabed mining from the people of PNG on behalf the government of PNG. The six delegates from affected coastal communities represented the voices of the 24 000 Papua New Guineans who signed a petition saying they do not want seabed mining to take place in their seas until adequate and viable studies are carried out. Sadly Mr Chan number two has surpassed the two weeks he stated that he would need to formulate a response at the presentation, disappointingly the December 14th date has gone by with NO RESPONSE as of yet from the honorable Mining Minister. Perhaps he is suffering a more serious case of amnesia?

2O13 is looking like another year for S.S.D.D Syndrome unless some emergency procedures are undertaken by not just one person or organization but as many citizens of Papua New Guinea as possible. This includes a good dose of morals + ethics + responsibility+ compassion + empathy and most of all a lethal dose of understanding gutpla na stretpla pasin namel long yumi yet.

Here we go again…

*S.S.D.D = Same Sh*t Different Days Syndrome

* gutpla na stretpla pasin namel long yumi yet = the correct/right/good way to treat each other according to our ways
