The European Shareholders of Bougainville Copper have accused families on Bougainville of stealing BCL's gold. The comments come in response to recent stories on alluvial mining.

One big fan of ESBC is Bougainville Copper Chairman Peter Taylor. He recently stated:

'As chairman of Bougainville Copper I am restricted in what I can say due to corporations’ laws. You do not have the same restrictions. Your analysis of the situation on Bougainville is appreciated.'

BCL is of course a subsidiary of global mining giant, Rio Tinto.
