Juffa: Arrest culprits (including Arore & Gore)

ORO Governor Gary Juffa has appealed to police to arrest and charge those who broke into the provincial assembly building last week in Popondetta.

A formal complaint has been laid with the police and only the accomplices of self-proclaimed governor David Arore have been arrested, said the Regional MP as the political crisis in his province entered its second week.

"This is not fair when the person who led the delegation to organise the destruction of state property was left out. No one is above the law and I call on the police hierarchy to play a neutral role," he said.

While the MP for Sohe provided funds for the police to fly into Oro without seeking the administration’s view as they were responsible for such decisions, the people are suspicious that there is undue influence. "We want neutrality and independent effort here," said Mr Juffa.

Amongst those who were arrested was a former national parliamentarian but the governor said the "real perpetrators", who broke the lock and doors of the provincial assembly, were yet to be arrested and charged.

"I have laid a formal complaint and leaders should not use politics to deviate the course of justice on this land. There is no immunity and all involved should be mass arrested. Inside an assembly there may be immunity but not breaking the doors and gates to get in, that is a crime," Mr Juffa added.

The actions of a lawyer in last week’s invasion of the provincial assembly has also come under scrutiny with Mr Juffa indicating that he will be referred to the PNG Law Society for possible disciplinary action.

Despite the denial by the Community Development Minister Delilah Gore of any part in last week’s crisis, Mr Juffa continued to push for her arrest and questioning for allegedly using public funds to sponsor the uprising by paying for the accommodation of four rebellious Oro council presidents in Port Moresby.

"We have copies of all the cheque butts and receipts of over K17, 000 paid to Grand Papua which we have attached in our formal complaint."

"Despite her denial, the details are very clear that it was the Department of Community Affairs," he said
