The Media Council of PNG in partnership with Transparency International PNG and the European Union have announced the launch of the Investigative Journalism Awards to support investigative journalist to investigate and expose issues involving corruption and the breakdown of governance.
The idea of the Investigative Journalism Awards was first proposed to the Media Council by ACT NOW! in 2018.
The awards aim to increase the capacity of journalists and editors to conduct investigations and encourage them to hold power to account and provide accurate information to break the cycle of impunity enjoyed by politicians and white collar criminals.
Effective and ethical journalism is essential to making our democracy more open, transparent and resilient.
