Lands Minister urges landowners to cash in
By Freddy Mou - PNG Edge
Lands Minister Benny Allen has called on landowners to register their land and help participate in the economy boom which is being experienced in the country.
He said the Lands Department which has been described by some people as the most corrupt department and taints much of the government system is willing to help people with their registrations if given adequate information.
“The Lands department is the custodian of the critical task of administering our land system. Nothing can be achieved without having land space upon which to perform that duty.
A reliable and efficient land tenure and administration system is fundamental to a modern economy,” he said.
“We have to give our people the option of registering their land so it can be used to help them participate in the economy. At the same time, they must always retain head title to the land because we cannot risk our people being dispossessed over time.
The recent episodes over the SABL process being used together under the guise of an Integrated Agriculture Project is not the way to do it and must be stopped (as it is) and reversed,” Allan said.
