Parliament will resume next Tuesday. The Members of Parliament will have resumed after a six months holiday except for the one day sitting in February to elect the Governor General.
If we remember correctly, the Speaker of Parliament, Jeffery Nape, told Papua New Guineans when he adjourned Parliament to May this year it was to give time to his office to organise the renovation work on the Parliament House.
Many Papua New Guineans did not believe the reason given by Mr Nape but he even went further and asked the Department of Finance and Treasury to release K20 million so that he can start work immediately.
We have no idea whether the money has been released. We also want to know and we are sure all the other Papua New Guineans out there will want to know if the renovation work promised by Mr Nape was carried out.
From what Port Moresby residents could see, there is no sign of any work on the Parliament building from the outside, so we assume that the work, if any was undertaken, must be in the interior of the building.
But should we learn that there is no renovation work at all done to this building, which many regard, as PNG’s symbol of its democracy, and a landmark in the world, then the Honorable Jeffery Nape mislead everyone in this country.
