Papua New Guinea is chasing a development dream based on a failed, foreign, neo-liberal economic model. Along the way it is loosing its sense of family and is drifting away from what once really mattered - Papua New Guinea is letting its children down.

While vast, foreign owned, extractive industries rip out our forests, gold, silver, oil and gas, common preventable illnesses claim hundreds of lives every week and none are more vulnerable than the young. 

Papua New Guinea has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world, high levels of HIV/Aids and terrible levels of domestic abuse and violence against women.

Foreign governments and our corrupt, misguided politicians tell us how all this is about to change and economic growth will not only benefit the rich and powerful but will trickle down to improve all our lives - but this is unmitigated BULLSHIT!

Steve Marshall's video reveals the truth behind the agenda of foreign corporations, foreign governments and the World Bank who pretend that tomorrow will bring a better future for us all, while they enjoy our riches today.

The video might be three years old, but it is even more relevant and true today than it was in 2008: nothing has changed and we will continue to let our children down until we come to our senses and follow our own Melanesian ways.
