MEDIA RELEASE: 99% say PM not doing enough on corruption

Ninety-nine percent of people who voted in an on-line poll think the government is not doing enough to tackle corruption. The poll was conducted by ACT NOW!

Effrey Dademo, Program Manager, says, “the message to the Prime Minister and the government is clear. The people want to see much more action on corruption. That has to include prosecuting white collar criminals in the public service and those they conspire with”.

ACT NOW! says corruption is the biggest single issue facing PNG as it takes vital funds away from the health sector, education and infrastructure maintenance.

“Why are our hospitals crumbling? Why do our kids go to schools with no books in the library? Why are our roads impassable? It is because our government is failing to stop corruption and the theft of public money”, says Ms Dademo.

ACT NOW! says the people of PNG have a right to know what the government is doing to give effect to the recommendations of various Commissions of Inquiry, including the very recent finance inquiry. Also, what steps have been taken to investigate allegations against government Ministers who have been linked to bank robberies committed by William Kapris.

“We hope the Prime Minister will listen to what the people are saying and take some immediate action”.

Comments

Actnowpng needs new and real issue for action. MRA, Vision 2050, land registration are issues which require debate. Ratlike Actnowpng lacks political clout to raise them it seems. Or are we to believe Papua Besena is leading PNG to Africa? PNG is a paradise country for all PNG people. So Actnowpng!

Indeed, PNG ambassador, PNG is a paradise country for all PNG people and it is our personal responsibility to all stand up and be heard. Collectively, people can have a huge influence on decision-making. ACT NOW! welcomes the comments from png ambassador and if you want to raise issues like MRA, Vision 2050 or Land etc...then you should definitely do that. Maybe you can start the discussion with a blog post of the Vision 2050 so we can all read it? ACT NOW! is not only about personal action - ACT NOW does not expect others to do all the work. We will shortly be adding a new campaign feature to the website which will make it even easier for people to raise issues of concern. Stay tuned and keep those comments coming...
