MP representing women of central Bougainville in the ABG is advocating against illegal logging activities in Kereaka, in the Kunua District of west coast Bougainville.

Joan Jerome revealed yesterday that she had received information from sources about illegal activities in Kereaka and is not happy about that.

“I do not want that illegal activity happening there and as a representative of the future generations, I am with the bulk of the population who are against this illegal logging activity that some individuals are trying to bring in,” she said.

“The Autonomous Bougainville Government, the ABG commerce department and the ABG forestry department are not aware of this activity and therefore it is illegal.

“As a landowner and woman representing all the mothers, I do not want this logging activity to take place in Kereaka,” she said.

Mrs Jerome is appealing to individuals who are dealing with this foreign logging company to come forward and follow the right channel and get directions on how to go about this activity.

“On the other hand, this activity taking place in Kereaka is illegal and must be stopped,” she said.

The female MP is urging the people of Kereaka not to allow these activities and stand firm to protect the only virgin forest they have on Bougainville.

“The ABG has not even said yes to this logging activity so this activity is illegal,” she stressed.
