Forests continue to disappear as O’Neill sits on SABL issue

Illegal logging activities continue to squander PNG natural rainforests as Prime Minister O’Neill sits on the SABL issue. It has been more than 3 weeks since the Prime Minister made an attempt on the SABL Inquiry recommendations. To date, no action has been taken by the ministerial team appointed to act on the inquiry’s recommendation.

Meanwhile, landowners all throughout the affected SABL project sites wait in anticipation of what actions the ministerial team will take. The three minister heads (Pruaitch, Tomscoll and Allen) have yet to gather themselves for a meet.

In the meantime valuable trees are being cut down and shipped out as the government has made no attempt to halt illegal operations despite the appalling seriousness of the inquiry findings. Landowners are getting frustrated on the long wait as they watch their resources being harvested by logging companies.
