While government Ministers are pressing ahead with plans for the controversial Pacific Marine Industrial Zone, despite considerable opposition from local communities, official documents show there is complete confusion about how much money the project will cost.

Kapris and Amet leave K25 million question unanswered

The stormy events at the Pacific Marine Industrial Zone forum last Friday have received plenty of media attention, but one question remains unanswered: what has happened to the K25 million of public money allocated in the 2007 national budget for PMIZ preparatory works?

Landowners secure important victory on PMIZ

Landowners from Madang have secured a significant and important victory in their opposition to the Pacific Marine Industrial Zone which is being built on their land by the government with money borrowed from China.

The government says the PMIZ will be Papua New Guinea's first Special Economic Zone, under new laws being written for PNG by the World Bank. The government says the PMIZ will provide a hub for tuna processing in the region and around 30,000 factory jobs.

Ministers accused of bulldozing the PMIZ project and bypassing landowners

A community leader from Rempi, furious over the absence of government representatives and ministers at the villagers own Pacific Marine Industrial Zone Forum, yesterday issued a scathing attack on Papua New Guinea's Commerce and Industry Minister, Gabriel Kapris, and Environment Minister, Benny Allen, accusing them of bulldozing the project and bypassing landowners.

Rempi village hosts forum to learn more about PNGs first SEZ; The PMIZ
