Rai Coast landowners want justice over illegal logging

A company is illegally logging on land on the Rai coast in Madang without the consent of local people and is exporting their logs.

The illegal logging is happening at Bongu Village, Block 1 Raicoast, Astrolabay, Madang Province (near the crash site for Airlines PNG, Madang)

The logging contractor, G&S Limited, is blatantly and openly logging and cutting logs without consent from the landowners.

Saidor Health Centre - surviving on the dedication of its staff

Dilung Gama and her daughter Martina (pictured) sit on bed in a small maternity ward   at the Saidor Health Center.      

Martina  who suffers from epilepsy,gave birth near their village a few days ago.    

The  child has been given away for adoption and Dilung - who appears to be in her 60s  - says they did that because Martina has too many children.

No new deal for PMIZ

Community leaders from the site of the troubled proposed Pacific Marine Industrial Zone have reacted angrily to newspaper stories that their communities have agreed to allow the project to procede, as reported on Monday.

Ebert Kaing who is the Program Manager-Education at Sumkar District living in Rempi village and a landowner said, "there are more issues which needs to be addressed before the PMIZ agreement signing".

Timely call for audit of the PMIZ project

The Secretary for Commerce and Industry, Steven Mera, should be commended for putting his re­putation on the line to call for a full financial audit of the Pacific Marine Industrial Zone project from 2008 to 2011.


This period effectively covers the administration of former secretary Anton Kulit and acting secretary John Andrias.
 We know very well that this project was politically hijacked by a former minister.
