PNG Forest Authority Managing Director has responded through the media - see article below - to a call from ACT NOW for publication of all log export data for 2024 and 2025.
MD John Mosoro says PNGFA officers have been monitoring of all log exports for the past two years, since independent monitoring company SGS withdrew its service.
As a result, the PNGFA “has all the information” on log volumes and values for the past two years.
The MD has not explained though why that data has not been published, and why assurances given to Parliament that this would be done have not been fulfilled.
According to the media report, the PNGFA has been sending quarterly reports to the National Forest Board and Mr Mosoro has “promised to have that report out by this year”.
In the meantime, according to the PNGFA, a new contractor will be engaged this week to take over the export monitoring services previously carried out by SGS.
ACT NOW is maintaining it call on the PNGFA to immediately publish all the log export data for 2024 and 2025 including details of the volume of logs shipped, the exporting company and the concession they were sourced from.
