Nations call for action on SABL land grab

The government needs to urgently take action on the SABL land grab and increase scrutiny of the logging industry. This was one of the messages from the international community during a review of human rights in PNG by the United Nations in Geneva on Friday.

Countries from Central and South America, Asia and Europe all spoke of the need for the PNG government to do more to protect the rights of customary landowners.

Is this land that is being dished out freely actually free land? Who are the birth title holders of these 1,600 land titles? No gift is free!...If these people in the Urbanization office genuinely thought about how this scheme will be providing decent homes for rural-urban drifters, than have they also prioritised in-depth thought for those (Landowners) who will be loosing thier decent homes (land) and forfieting thier childrens decencey to a home for thier own tomorrow, for someone elses today?
