Heavy logging continues in Turubu despite court victory

The foreign logging company deemed illegal by the National court is still heavily logging down kwila trees and leaving the land barren in Turubu, East Sepik Province. Despite being called out by the court to stop the illegal logging on portion 144C, these Asian thieves have resorted to other ways to continue stealing the kwila trees behind the back of the laws of this land.

Turubu Locals Awaiting Promised Development

THE multi-million kina Turubu oil palm project in East Sepik is working on its central nursery at Nungawa village in the Sausso area.

Landowner company chairman Aron Malijiwi said this 20ha main nursery area would supply planting material to the entire project on the SABL portion 144c in the Sausso and Turubu LLG areas.

Landowners urge govt to end SABLs

Landowners in East Sepik have called on the national government to do away with special purpose business lease agreement (SPABL).

 In a forum conducted by Turubu Eco Forestry yesterday, many landowners said they were not fully informed of the agreement and its implications.  The landowners said much of their land had been alienated through SPABLs without their full consent for nearly a century.  They feel this is “totally wrong and must be returned”.
