PM: We will reclaim land lost to illegal SABLS

The O’Neill/Dion Government is cancelling all Special Agriculture and Business Leases (SABLs) obtained illegally, and will abolish provisions of the Land Act which allows for SABLs to be granted.

“We are taking these steps to reclaim our customary land illegally lost to foreigners with the help of corrupt public servants and leaders,” Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said today.

Pacific Churches back Lutheran opposition to experimental seabed mining

The Pacific Conference of Churches has supported calls from a PNG church for a halt to Deep Sea Mining (DSM).

About 1.2 million members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELCPNG) have said no to Experimental Seabed Mining after its synod on Karkar Island, Madang Province.

The members have also given their church leaders approval to address the issue with the PNG Government.

New billboard outside Parliament sends clear message to PM: Revoke all unlawful SABLs

A new billboard with a clear message for the Prime Minister has been erected in central Waigani, right under the noses of Papau New Guinea's MPs.

The billboard is on the busy roundabout outside the Somare Foundation Building on Sir John Guise Drive - right in the path of everyone travelling to Parliament and infront of the offices of the Department of the Prime Minister and NEC.

Oro government leads in the fight against illegal land grabbing

While PNG Prime Minister Peter O'Neill sits on his hands refusing to cancel unlawful SABL leases and stop illegal logging, the Oro Provincial government is standing with its people against the Malaysian led land grab.

In a statement issued overnight, Oro Governor Gary Juffa has again committed his government to assist landowners:

"That the Oro Government stands by its people in fighting against land grabbing, illegal logging and is willing to support their court cases with its own legal team and attending as a party to all cases of such.

PNG PM O’Neill plans changes to ICAC set up

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has told Parliament that constitutional changes would be made to establish the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

The body is likely to be in place by the middle of next year. It is expected to take over the functions of the Task Force Sweep and the police fraud squad.

O’Neill announced an amendment to the Organic Law on Provincial Government and Local Level Government to establish the district development authority.
