Land issues cause SABL cancellations

The reason behind the dispute during the special agriculture business lease (SABL) site in Pomio district has been attributed to land ownership issues.

Norbert Pames from Portion 196C (Pomata Investments Limited) in the Sigite/Mukus integrated project area in West Pomio indicated this when commending the national Government on its decision to cancel SABL projects.

PNG police defend Paga Hill resettlement

The Papua New Guinea police have denied residents were forcibly evicted from a popular squatter settlement in Port Moresby.

Earlier this week 300 residents were moved from Upper Paga Hill to alternate land at Six Mile in Port Moresby, and police had praised the Paga Hill Development Company, which provided transport and removal services.

Prospective Canadian deep-sea miner Nautilus Minerals on Wednesday announced that it had started building its second seafloor production tool (SPT), the collecting machine (CM), at third-party manufacturer Soil Machine Dynamics’ (SMD) facility at Newcastle upon Tyne, in the UK.

Forest Minister Douglas Tomuriesa says he is developing a program with an aim to deliver services using funds from the Log Export Development Levy.

He says he has written a letter to every Member of Parliament outlining his plans on how the levies from logging companies should be spent on development.
