Melanesians have great respect for our land. it is the core of our livelihood. Selling of land in our communities has caused rural-urban drift, many people have become displaced and cannot maintain a subsistant living becuase there is no land to cultivate. A great number of people have lost their land to SABL schemes and land grabbing, thus have come town to earn a monetary livelihood. Question is, who is (really) causing this problem?

Activists in Papua New Guinea say the cancellation of two leases in Port Moresby highlights the government's inaction in scrapping other controversial leases covering millions of hectares of customary land.

Last week the Secretary of the Lands Department cancelled two leases over Ela Beach after the local MP publicly alleged they'd been obtained corruptly - a claim disputed by the lease holder.

Is this land that is being dished out freely actually free land? Who are the birth title holders of these 1,600 land titles? No gift is free!...If these people in the Urbanization office genuinely thought about how this scheme will be providing decent homes for rural-urban drifters, than have they also prioritised in-depth thought for those (Landowners) who will be loosing thier decent homes (land) and forfieting thier childrens decencey to a home for thier own tomorrow, for someone elses today?
