According to landowners, there are early signs that a new trend of mutation is starting to take shape on defective SABLs, and as such they (landowners) have alerted the public to prevent this trend from taking root.

PM: We will reclaim land lost to illegal SABLS

The O’Neill/Dion Government is cancelling all Special Agriculture and Business Leases (SABLs) obtained illegally, and will abolish provisions of the Land Act which allows for SABLs to be granted.

“We are taking these steps to reclaim our customary land illegally lost to foreigners with the help of corrupt public servants and leaders,” Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said today.

The National Research Institute says Laws relating to Special Agricultural and Business Leases are outdated and do not cater to the needs of customary landowners.

The think tank is calling on the Government to scrap the S.A.B.L.s altogether in place of a new and independent working committee to work on a better legislative framework.

PM assures landowners SABLs will be reviewed

SPECIAL Agricultural Business Leases (SABLs) which are not genuine will be cancelled, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill says.

He said Cabinet had set up a ministerial committee to look into the recommendations in the SABL inquiry report.

He said the committee would recommend to the Government what actions to take.

“We are now going as far as trying to cancel many of the leases,” he said.

“I want to assure the nation that most of the leases that

are not genuine have taken

Read the Finance Inquiry Commission of Inquiry report

Last month the courts finally lifted an injunction preventing the publication of the damning Commission of Inquiry report into corruption in the Department of Finance (the so-called "Paraka Scams').

The Commission spent several years investigating allegations of widespread corruption but in 2010, the day after its report was tabled in parliament, lawyer Paul Paraka and former Solicitor General Zachary Gelu obtained a court injunction preventing its publication.

After more than three years, that injunction has finally been lifted.
