Mining executives and government Ministers prefer the high life in Sydney to the dangers of Port Moresby

The big boys of mining and petroleum and from the PNG government are set to gather at the annual PNG Mining and Petroleum Investment Conference in Australia.

They will gather in Sydney at the Hilton Hotel for the conference which will run for three days, December 1-3.

It will be the 13thsuch conference to be held.

Registrations will be done on Sunday November 30 and the conference meetings start the next morning, with PNG’s Prime Minister Peter O’Neill listed to make the keynote address.

His remarks will be on the topic “Contribution of Mining and Petroleum Sectors to Sustain Economic Growth”.

Then Treasurer Patrick Pruaitch is listed to speak on the Budget and 2015 outlook.

Deloitte Access Economics partner Chris Richardson is to speak on the Global Economic Outlook and Implications for PNG resource sectors after them.

There will be a session after that to cover the updates on the LNG projects, with speakers from ExxonMobil,  Total Oil and Talisman Energy companies, all major players in the PNG scene.

After lunch on the first day, key figures  on the scene will present speeches: Oil Search’s Peter Botten, the MRDC’s Augustine Mano, consultant Richard Jackson (an Ok Tedi mine expert) and PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum’s Lesley Bennett.

In the afternoon, Mining Minister Byron has been invited to speak on the Downturn in the Minerals Industry, to be followed by addresses from executives of Newcrest Mining (about Lihir), Barrick Niugini on the Porgera mine and Ok Tedi Mining on “Ok Tedi: A New Dawn’’.
