Youths use Sports to share message: Stop the land grab

Wagsford Youths Soccer team

A local town soccer team in Madang, has a message to share at the Madang town soccer competition. The message on their jerseys reads 'Stop the Land Grab'.

The youths were inspired to create awareness on land grabbing after a week of story sessions with Act Now! which included information on the large number of hectares of land in Papua New Guinea (PNG) that has, and continues to be, stolen through land grabbing.

These youths have come to realise that our resources have been used to benefit outsiders and not traditional landowners and locals. The result is an increase in school drop-outs, unemployed youth and rising social issues in their province and throughout the country.

Wagsford youth play in a local soccer team competition in town where they participate every weekend at the Laiwaden oval. The message on their jerseys, Stop the Land Grab, is cleraly visable for their opponents and spectators.

The team are also informing others before, during and after their games about the meaning of the message on their jersey.
